As the first chapter of the series, this concert is intentionally designed to be approachable, serving both as an introduction for new audiences and a foundation for the deeper emotional and musical journey that follows.
To strengthen the educational dimension of the event, a pre-concert talk will be given by Jed Distler, offering insight into Schubert’s collaborative writing, the role of the piano across different settings, and key listening perspectives that will carry through the entire series.
The program will feature three of Franz Schubert’s most recognizable and engaging chamber works:
Violin Sonata (Sonatina) in D major, D. 384 (or A minor, D. 385 / G minor, D. 408)
Sonata in A minor, D. 821 "Arpeggione” (performed on viola)
Piano Quintet in A major, D. 667 "Trout”
Together, these works present Schubert’s music in its most inviting form. The Sonatina introduces a transparent, lyrical style rooted in classical clarity, offering audiences an immediate sense of familiarity. The "Arpeggione” Sonata expands the expressive range through long, vocal lines and intimate dialogue between instrument and piano. The program culminates in the "Trout” Quintet, a work celebrated for its warmth, color, and variation-driven structure, bringing together all five performers in a vibrant and engaging musical conversation.
The concert will feature a distinguished group of artists:
Larissa Dedova, piano
James Stern, violin
Katherine Murdock, viola
Eric Kutz, cello
Anthony Manzo, double bass
Guest Speaker: Jed Distler
